The Hard Oil music festival is preparing to make Petrolia Park vibrate from Thursday to Saturday

Enthusiastic volunteers help Petrolia’s Greenwood Park become a venue for the Hard Oil music festival, held Thursday through Saturday as part of the city’s 150th anniversary celebrations.

The work began on Monday and until Wednesday morning 1,200 meters of transience fence were erected around the place and the stage took shape.

“Every time we turn around, dozens of people show up with gloves on and able to work,” said Laurissa Ellsworth, the city’s director of marketing, arts and communications. “Petrolia is so rich in volunteers that it blows my mind. ” . »

About 70 more people have been moving through the place every day since Monday, along with the municipal service workers who intervened.

Preparations are on schedule Wednesday morning, Ellsworth said.

“It’s about feeling less like a box and more like a festival,” he said.

The concerts begin Thursday with a night of country music led by Josh Ross, with supporting artists Madeline Merlo and Colt McLauchlin, who grew up on a farm outside Petrolia.

“Everyone loves the country, so Thursday night is the hottest time,” Friday’s sales were “right behind,” Ellsworth said.

Tom Cochrane will headline Friday with April Wine. On Saturday, the Sam Roberts Band headlines the bill with Treble Charger, Cabin Fever and Born Riot.

In addition to volunteers, Petrolia helped through organizers of Sarnia’s annual Bluewater Borderfest summer festival, who shared facts and tips, Ellsworth said.

“It took me a while to prepare,” he said. “We are very excited. “

The Lambton County core, built after the discovery of oil in 1858, celebrates the 150th anniversary of its incorporation as a city with a year of occasions and celebrations that began on January 1 and will culminate with a New Year’s celebration.

Thousands of people are expected to see the three nights of live music and will also be able to attend a Saturday morning car show around the farmers market and a 150th anniversary parade downtown starting at 2 p. m. m. , followed by family events at the Petrolia Discovery site. A Hard Oil Kids Day is scheduled for Sunday from 11 a. m. to 5 p. m. m. at four p. at Greenwood Park after a 10 a. m. church service. m.

“We have 50 floats registered” for the parade, Ellsworth said.

“And we have a couple of automobile clubs that come with multiple cars, so it’s going to be a long, smart parade. “
