Report 201402 n n A 58-year-old East Cleveland man was charged with endangering youth after an incident at Walmart, 1868 Warrensville Center Rd on August 31. At 7:05 pm, a patrol officer was alerted through a client. to an abandoned baby in the back seat of a car. The car windows were up, the temperature was around 75 degrees, the humidity was high, and the car was parked in direct sunlight. n n The officer responded promptly to the vehicle, along with an off-duty police manager and several nearby patrol units. Due to the maximum temperature and maximum humidity, the manager asked officials to open the vehicle to check on the well-being of the two-year-old girl, who appeared to be passed out. N n Officers were able to get her out of her car seat and out of the vehicle. They observed that he was physically hot to the touch and was sweating. Officers were able to discharge their water while looking for a relative. Around 7:23 a.m., a man came out of Walmart and said he was the girl’s father. He said he was only interned for approx. 10 minutes. When asked why he left her in the car, he said she was sleeping and did not need to wake her up. He also said he had a cold. N n The police manager was able to download a time-stamped still photo of the guy getting out of his car at 7:04:29 p.m. He didn’t get back in the car until 7:23 p.m. He left her unattended in the vehicle for 19 minutes. A witness submitted a brief saying that when the bathroom was stopped he was in the car and when he backed up the boy was still in the car. The witness told officials that he remained inside Walmart for at least 10 minutes. N n The boy’s father, 58, was charged with endangering youth (O.R.C 2919.22 (A)), a first degree misdemeanor.
