The Most Exciting Upcoming Horror Movies Coming in 2024

The year is coming to an end and we’re here to let you know what upcoming horror videos will be on your list of New Year’s resolutions.

Over the next few months and 2024, all kinds of horror movies are on the horizon that will turn our movie outings into terrifying and thrill-filled attractions.

The new year brings us Blumhouse’s latest offering in the form of Night Swim, a new suburban supernatural horror from producers Jason Blum and James Wan. In February, we’ll have a horror comedy starring Freaky’s brilliant Kathryn Newton as a young woman in love struggling with her reanimated weight in Lisa Frankenstein, and in March, Imaginary will arrive with its tormentor full, via Blumhouse, to show us that. Not all friends from the formative years are. . . Friendly. Then, April will deliver a new prequel to the old occult franchise The Omen. In other words, the first third of the year would probably scare us.

In the spring and summer, we’re looking forward to the first installment of the new film trilogy The Strangers, Chapter 1 of which hits theaters in May, and in August will bring the American reinvention of Danish horror Speak No Evil.

Then, heading towards Halloween, we’ll see more Art the Clown with Terrifier 3, as well as exciting releases like Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu and, hands crossed, The Toxic Avenger reboot.

With all this and much more, the upcoming horror videos of 2024 will offer another year of delicious horror for horror fans. Further down. . .

Blumhouse continues to present original horror stories and with Imaginary, which hits theaters in March, they address the pretended innocence of children’s imaginary friends. Now, as anyone who’s seen the 1991 chaotic comedy Drop Dead Fred knows, those playful entities can be anything even innocent, but Blumhouse’s new offering will go even further and plunge the game’s screams into true darkness. The story will revolve around a woman who returns home from her formative years with her family, where her stepdaughter discovers a teddy bear named Chauncey that encourages her to play spooky games. As his habit becomes increasingly worrying, the family realizes that Chauncey is much more than the stuffed toy they thought he was. Jeff Wadlow is back in the Blumhouse director’s chair after 2020’s Fantasy Island, and DeWanda Wise (Someone Great, Jurassic World Dominion), Tom Payne (The Walking Dead), and Betty Buckley (Carrie, Split) are all stars. The trailer hints at more of the now-classic Blumhouse-style scare sequences we’ve come to expect, and with what looks to be an impressive performance from young actress Pyper Braun, it’s a good time in the company of a creepy bear. We get new access to the canon of The Omen, Richard Donner’s 1976 vintage starring Gregory Peck, Lee Remick and David Warner, and which gave the horror world the quintessential creepy kid, Damien the Antichrist. The franchise already includes two sequels (the one from 1978). Damien: Omen II and The Final Conflict from 1981) and a remake from 2006, but this new film deserves to take us back to the beginning in prequel form. When a young American woman is sent to Rome to begin a life of service to the Church, she encounters a darkness that leads her to question her own religion and uncovers a terrifying conspiracy to bring about the birth of evil incarnate. Produced by David S. Goyer (2022’s Hellraiser) and Keith Levine (The Night House), and directed by Arkasha Stevenson in her feature film, it will be a welcome return to the hidden world of the genre-defining original. Bryan Bertino’s original film, starring Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman, was released in 2008 and has become one of the most infamous and beloved home invasion films in the subgenre. Today, the franchise continues, with 3 new films – The Strangers: Chapter 1, Chapter 2 and Chapter 3 – all directed by director Renny Harlin (A Nightmare on Elm Street 4, Deep Blue Sea). The Strangers: Chapter 1 will have a similar premise to the original, following a couple who are on vacation on the road and spend a night in a secluded Airbnb and unfortunately meet our 3 terrifying strangers; The action will continue from there in the new trilogy.

This U. S. remake of the standout 2022 Danish surprise film will be released in theaters in August via Universal and Blumhouse, and it recently earned an “R” score from the Motion Picture Association (MPA), promising that the U. S. edition won’t take any hits. . , just like the original, in fact, it didn’t. The film will tell the terrifying story of a circle of family members invited to spend a weekend in an idyllic country house, going from a dream vacation to a mental nightmare. James Watkins (Eden Lake, The Woman in Black) occupies the director’s chair, and James McAvoy (Split) and Mackenzie Davis (Terminator: Dark Fate, The Turning) will star. Hollywood remakes of recent horror films would probably be straightforward, but with Christian and Mads Tafdrup – director and original, respectively – at a pace of writing with Watkins, it can also be an engaging attempt to tell the company’s story. Embarrassing scares for a wider audience.

If you’re a horror fan, you may have had long-lost friends reach out to you sometime in the past year just to wonder if you got to see a certain killer clown movie. Art the Clown, the sadistic villain In Terrifier 2, moviegoers had not easy (helpfully flagged) bags of illness. The exaggeration, while still making a living from it, was real. And you can’t argue with the numbers. Terrifier 2, a funny, gory, if overly long, slasher movie costs only $250,000 to make, but grossed $15 million at the international box office. Hence Terrifier 3, which will still be released exclusively on the American horror streaming service Screambox.

As reported by Bloody Disgusting, director Damien Leone is excited to bring even more extremity to the series for this threequel. “Aside from a yearning for new and exciting horror villains like Art the Clown, a large part of Terrifier 2’s success was based on its unprecedented theatrical release and its uncompromising nature. It’s pretty clear that we’re now entering a slasher genre renaissance; perhaps the biggest one since the ’90s. Filmmakers like myself are gonna have to keep pushing the envelope so it’s encouraging when a company respects a director’s vision and understands what makes a certain type of film successful.”

We’ve been teased for Robert Eggers’ adaptation of Nosferatu for a while now. First it happened, then it didn’t happen, then it happened, and now we can finally see it for the first time! After the 1922 harvest led by F. W. Murnau and Werner Herzog’s 1979 remake, Eggers (The Witch, The Lighthouse, The Northman) officially brings to the big screen its edition of one of the scariest vampire stories, and it’s yet to come to continue the culture in which Count Orlok finds himself. A terrifying monster indeed. Chameleon Bill Skarsgard (IT, Barbarian) will play Orlok this time around, along with another impressive set of Eggers that adds Lily-Rose Depp, Willem Dafoe, Nicholas Hoult, Ralph Ineson and Aaron Taylor-Johnson. We can’t wait to sink our teeth into this one!

The reboot of the 1984 Troma Entertainment comedy-horror cult classic got its world premier at Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas in September 2023 and although we don’t yet have a confirmed release date, this should be one on the radar for anyone with a penchant for schlocky gore, quirky comedy, and practical effects. Macon Blair, best known as the director of 2017’s indie favourite I Don’t Feel at Home in This World Anymore and his acting turns in a whole host of genre fair including Blue Ruin, Green Room, and The Hunt, feels like a safe pair of hands for this retelling of the tale of The Toxic Avenger – a mutated anti-hero who wields a deadly mop. Peter Dinklage is in the title role, starring alongside Kevin Bacon, Jacob Tremblay, and Elijah Wood, with the teaser trailer seemingly promising that this new version will lose none of the humor and chaos of the original. Here’s hoping we get to revel in all its frenetic, jaw-ripping action sooner rather than later.

Just when you didn’t think there could be any more Stephen King adaptations, another tome is added to the ‘time for a remake’ shelf. And this time, it’s a heavy hitter. For those of a certain age, one of the most terrifying horror moments lurks in Tobe Hooper’s Salem’s Lot TV series from 1979 as a vampire child arrives at a window asking to be let in…. This means no pressure for Conjuring Universe staple Gary Dauberman on both directing and screenplay duties. The good news is that given that he is also responsible for the screenplay of both parts of IT, Dauberman already has keen King conversion chops. The similar ‘terror in a small town’ theme of Salem’s Lot as a vampire holes up in the old house on the hill could mean very good things. There’s been no official reveal of a poster or trailer but the art above was revealed after a tie-in edition of the book was spotted online. The movie was initially meant to release in 2022 but New Line has since added a new 2023 release date and cruelly taken it away again. As it stands, you’ve got a little longer to prep your garlic.

Whether it’s smart or not, we now live in a world where entire franchises are announced before the first movie is even released. The writers of the first two Conjuring films, Chad and Carey Hayes, have teamed up and revealed an entire series of horror films revolving around the famous LaLaurie mansion in New Orleans. This sinister abode, which was once the home of none other than Nic Cage and reportedly lasted only one night of horrific screaming and beatings, is considered one of the most haunted places in the world. The good news is that if you’ve done your horror housework and watched American Horror Story Coven, you already know its nastiest resident.

Played by Kathy Bates in AHS, Madame LaLaurie was a New Orleans socialite and horrific 19th-century serial killer, guilty of the horrific torture, mutilation, and murder of several black slaves. His secret was only revealed when a fire broke out in his mansion and firefighters discovered that some of his patients were slightly alive in evil states.

Not content with a single film, the Hayes brothers will tell several stories of the mansion’s history, from its horrific beginnings to the day of arrival. In addition, they plan to write some from inside the house. “We love writing films where we tell true stories, incorporating moments that other people can look for and discover really happened,” they announced in a press release. “With LaLaurie House, we can do just that. . . There is a great deal of documentation on a very dark and scary story beyond the genuine events. Not to mention, after spending some time there, what we personally experienced was literally unsettling. We haven’t been this excited about a task since The Conjuring! »
