The next Pixel 8a will possibly be bigger than the Pixel, but it will be less powerful

It’s been less than a week since the Pixel 8 series was revealed at the time of writing, and we’re already getting leaks about the upcoming mid-range model: the Pixel 8a.

In collaboration with industry expert OnLeaks, tech news outlet SmartPrix recently shared several versions of the potential long-term smartphone design. On the surface, the device looks like a cross between the popular Pixel 8 and Pixel 7a, as it has the features of both. The Pixel 8a will have the same rounded corners as the other styles in the lineup, moving away from “the square shape of its predecessor. “However, it will be slightly larger than the main style as its dimensions are 152. 1 x 72. 6×8. 9mm.

But despite the added clutter, the screen may not get bigger. In fact, it’s quite the opposite. The report shows thicker bezels at the corners, reducing the display to 6. 1 inches. For comparison, the Pixel 8 has a 6. 2-inch display.

Other notable design features come with the rear camera module that will retain the visor look the series is known for. On the front, see a small recess for the selfie lens. The force and volume buttons are on the left with the SIM tray on the opposite side. On the back edge, locate a USB-C charging input between the speakers. The most sensitive edge allegedly houses “an ultra-wideband antenna,” according to SmartPrix. The device will be available in sky blue and what appears to be peach pink.

What’s particularly appealing is that those renders fit another leak from late September. Industry expert Abhishek Yadav is said to have got his hands on a prototype and then posted photographs of it on X (the ancient platform known as Twitter). So it’s conceivable that the rounder design is more believable than we thought at first.

Obviously, being a mid-range, the Pixel 8a is probably not more resistant than its brothers. The SmartPrix report mentions a benchmark test conducted in August for the smartphone codenamed Google Akita. The results suggest that the model will host a “non-frequency variant of the Tensor G3 chipset, along with the Mali-G715 GPU. “The amount of memory remains the same, as it is “listed with 8GB of RAM”. Android 14 will be the operating system.

Going back to the rear camera, we know that the Pixel 8a will have two lenses judging by the images, but we don’t know how many megapixels each will have. If history repeats itself, the phone’s camera would possibly have more megapixels than the popular model. It’s similar to how the Pixel 7a’s lenses are technically larger than the Pixel 7’s. However, keep in mind that more megapixels doesn’t mean better photographs. There are other things you need to consider, such as the processor. the Pixel 8a could be a worse experience.

AsArray takes this data with caution. Things can be replaced at any time. No release date has been provided in the leaks. But then again, if history repeats itself, we may see a May 2024 launch, just as we saw with the Pixel 7a when it unveiled in May 2023.
