With just a few weeks left until the end of 2023, One Piece enthusiasts received news that most (we think it would be safe to say) didn’t see coming. Netflix has announced that it is partnering with acclaimed studio WIT (Spy x Family, Attack on Titan Seasons 1-3) on a new anime adaptation of narrator Eiichiro Oda’s beloved vintage manga. The news came on the second day of Jump Festa 2024, with The One Piece beginning its on-screen adventures with the iconic East Blue Saga. In collaboration with the One Piece production committee (composed of representatives from Shueisha, Fuji Television Network and Toei Animation Co. ), the series currently in production will be broadcast internationally exclusively on Netflix. So what better time than “One Piece Day” for enthusiasts to get a pretty comprehensive “production notes” featurette from the folks at WIT Studios directing the new anime adaptation? waiting for you above, along with a stencil of some of the selection screenshots from the behind-the-scenes video.
In a joint statement at the time news of the task was first announced, the committee expressed its excitement for this groundbreaking task, which will stand out from the animated television series that has captivated audiences for more than 25 years. With The One Piece, the committee aims to provide the audience with a new and familiar experience, employing state-of-the-art visual technology to reimagine Luffy’s adventures through the beloved East Blue saga. Now, here’s a look at the video of the official announcement released that gives more details:
