In another article, Jon Cryer claimed that the time device was not a Delorean who had to do it 88 miles according to the time. It was just an ordinary time device powered by nuclear commission and a secret element (which Cryer said was Coca-Cola). Jon Cryer then talks about choosing the finish of the film that was part of the original script.
According to Cryer, the original Back to the Future story ended with Marty at an atomic bomb control site. Just before the bomb goes off, Marty manages with a bottle of Coca-Cola (which is needed to force the time device into this version). However, you cannot escape with the time device before the atomic bombs are released. But Marty temporarily sees a lead-lined box nearby, a refrigerator. He enters the refrigerator, closes the door and is sent back “to the future” as soon as the bomb goes off.
