In an update sent to IGN, Sony Pictures showed that the new Street Fighter movie is now scheduled for March 20, 2026. No additional information about the film has been revealed.
Despite the release date, many marks remain around the new film, developed jointly with Capcom. The project reportedly lost directors Danny and Michael Philippou in part due to a scheduling conflict, and no details about the script or casting have been revealed.
Whatever form it takes, the new film will attempt to follow Street Fighter’s mythically poor live-action track record, which includes the notorious (but charming) film starring Jean-Claude Van Damme and the late Raul Julia. There’s also 2009’s Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li, which might be even worse. Either way, getting better at those movies is a pretty low bar to clear.
