The Vinyl Factory will offer REVERB: over a hundred artists exploring the intersection of art and sound.

180 Studios’ Vinyl Factory presents REVERB, a premier multimedia exhibition exploring the intersection of art and sound, opening May 23, 2024.  In the largest exhibition of its kind, REVERB will bring together more than a hundred artists and musicians performing in other fields, including visual arts, music, film and live performances.

REVERB will provide new site-specific audio-visual installations and sound experiences, commissioned through The Vinyl Factory, from artists such as Theaster Gates, Es Devlin, Julianknxx and Caterina Barbieri, with UK premieres of artworks by Kahlil Joseph, Stan Douglas, Virgil Abloh and Cecilia. Bengolea and installations through Jeremy Deller, William Kentridge, Jenn Nkiru, Hito Steyerl, Carsten Nicolai and Gabriel Moses.

Hi-Fi Listening Room Dream No. 1, created and programmed with New York artist Devon Turnbull, will create a meditation area within the exhibition to pay attention to vinyl records with an evolving program of never-before-seen music, adding exclusive urgent quizzes and studio releases.

An extensive programme of live presentations and lectures will also accompany the exhibition. A new painting through Theaster Gates, Amplified, will exist as a sound installation during the day and will be transformed into an area that will host live performances at night, with performances by established and emerging musicians recorded. and pressed directly onto the record at The Vinyl Factory Lathe.

100 vinyl records created by artists and released through The Vinyl Factory will also be showcased in a new area designed by Ben Kelly. These include albums by Nan Goldin, Arthur Jafa, Pipilotti Rist, William Kentridge, Mica Levi, Marina Abramovic, Grace. Jones, Yussef Dayes, Es Devlin, Fred Again, Thom Yorke, Ragnar Kjartansson, Massive Attack, Pet Shop Boys, Maurizio Cattelan, Daft Punk, The xx, Rachel Rose, Kojey Radical, Taryn Simon and many more.

For more than 20 years, The Vinyl Factory has been at the forefront of fostering pioneering collaborations between artists and musicians, embracing new concepts and exploring new tactics to fuse art and sound.

A public program of live musical performances will take the place of the exhibition with the recordings printed as limited edition vinyl records through The Vinyl Factory.
