There is now a new manga subscription for Australians.

Australia doesn’t have many exclusive manga services, but as of today, iPhone and iPad users will now be able to access a new manga service, Mangamo, for $7.99 a month.

Mangamo is intended to provide unlimited ad-free access to the official manga in English, adding main series such as Ghost in the Shell, BLAME!, Attack on Titan, Reset Game, Fairy Tail, Space Brothers, Japan Sinks 2020, Art, Fire Force, Inuyashiki, Knights of Sidonia. At the time of writing, more than 1,000 titles are available. Mangamo is also available on Android worldwide, but for now, only the Apple edition is available here.

The tone is quite simple. Many manga read online illegally, have submarines created through fans. While this has helped increase manga’s popularity internationally, it is recently for the creators or publishers who finance its creation. According to Mangamo, about 30 million international users read illegal manga piracy sites each month. The hope is that an affordable subscription will help fill this gap.

It is not the only subscription available to Australians. Webtoon series are available in Australia, a webtoon based on a freemium style that in a prepayment. Webtoons and manga are not the same, of course, the first is a term for South Korean webcomics, but it offers another legal option for online comics, if that’s your thing.

“I grew up reading manga and watching cartoons as a child in Japan, and I’m encouraged by the global boom in this much-loved form of Japanese entertainment,” Mangamo founder and CEO Buddy Marini said earlier this year, when Mangamo announced a two-month loose test at the height of the coronavirus pandemic.

Australians and New Zealanders can take a 30-day loose test at the time of writing. You can find Mangamo in the App Store here, or by searching the App Store on your iPad or iPhone.
