As Ted Lasso heads toward a season 4 renewal, Deadline reported over the weekend that the series’ studio has secured supporting roles for 3 main cast members and is looking to secure more. Unfortunately, a beloved star may not return for the next episode as a regular on the show.
Both Deadline and Puck News’ Matthew Belloni recently reported that Phil Dunster, who portrays AFC Richmond footballer Jamie Tartt, has not been picked up by the series, likely due to scheduling conflicts. Dunster currently stars in two series, Prime Video’s The Devil’s Hour and Apple’s Surface. Apple TV+ representatives for Ted Lasso have not yet responded to requests for comment.
In an interview with Esquire last year after the Season 3 premiere, Dunster revealed what he would miss most about Tartt’s role: “They gave him details about him, which I just don’t have, and it’s a general confidence in ‘Who he is. ‘” , the actor explained. “It’s a little scary, but he learned to be that guy with a certain kindness. Just knowing this guy in detail and all his possible options will make me wonder. “It’s a genuine gift. “
Even if Dunster doesn’t appear in a regular role on the show, it’s imaginable that the English actor will still appear in season four as a guest star, a viable option for Ted Lasso actors who can’t commit to another season.
As of now, Hannah Waddingham (Rebecca Walton), Brett Goldstein (Roy Kent), and Jeremy Swift (Leslie Higgins) have reportedly won microphones from Warner Bros. Television, according to the report.
There’s no word yet on co-creators and executive producers Jason Sudeikis (Ted Lasso), Brendan Hunt (Coach Beard), and Juno Temple (Keeley Jones). The studio is expected to touch them next, just like any other star with SAG. AFTRA contracts whose characteristics have expired, the appeals told Deadline.
Following season 4 reports, Ted Lasso star Nick Mohammed (Nathan Shelley) wrote “I told you so!” with a laughing X emoji (formerly Twitter).
Co-creator Bill Lawrence told Collider in August 2024 that the decision to return for season four ultimately fell to Sudeikis.
“Not only is he the star, he’s the head writer and he’s also the guy whose life has to be completely overhauled and moved to a foreign country with young children,” Lawrence explained. “It’s a big problem. So as a fan, if someone tells me, “Oh, this is happening to happen again,” I’ll go crazy. As your partner, I am able to do whatever is necessary.
