Tom Cruise’s Jack Reacher films, which preceded Alan Ritchson’s hit Reacher, are attracting a lot of viewership on Netflix.
The first two seasons of Ritchson’s Reacher were a big hit for Prime Video and season 3 is on the way.
However, Tom Cruise first played the character in two films: Jack Reacher in 2012 and Jack Reacher: Never Go Back in 2016.
The first Jack Reacher film directed through Cruise’s longtime collaborator Christopher McQuarrie, while Edward Zwick, who directed Cruise in The Last Samurai, took over as director of Jack Reacher: Never Go Back.
Both of Cruise’s Jack Reacher videos were released on Netflix on August 1. On Sunday, Jack Reacher: Never Go Back is ranked No. 2 on the streaming service’s Top 10 Most Viewed Videos in the United States, while Jack Reacher is ranked No. 7.
The Jack Reacher movies and series are, of course, based on a variety of e-books from Lee Child’s best-selling series. Cruise’s first Jack Reacher film was based on 2005’s Child’s One Shot, while Jack Reacher: Never Go Back was based on the 2013 e-book of the same name.
According to The Numbers, Jack Reacher earned $80 million domestically and $137. 3 million worldwide for a total of $217 million at the international box office, versus a production budget of $60 million before print and advertising costs.
Jack Reacher: Never Go Back didn’t fare so well, earning, according to The Numbers, only about $58. 9 million domestically and $101. 2 in ticket sales at foreign prices for a global total of $159. 9 million before P.
Jack Reacher, starring Rosamund Pike, Richard Jenkins, David Oyelowo and Werner Herzog, earned a “fresh” score of 64% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 185 reviews. The RT audience gave the film a “fresh” score of 67%. based on more than 100,000 scores.
The RT Critics consensus for the film reads: “Jack Reacher is an above-average crime mystery with charismatic, suave Tom Cruise functionality. ” »
RT critics weren’t as thrilled with Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, giving the film a “bad” score of 38% based on 245 reviews and a “bad” score of 42% based on over 25,000 ratings. The sequel stars Colbie Smulders, Aldis Hodge, and Holt McCallany.
RT’s critics consensus reads: “Jack Reacher: Never Go Back is an action-mystery sequel whose name also serves as a warning. ” »
One user who criticizes Cruise’s Jack Reacher films is Alan Ritchson, who reprised the role for the Reacher Prime Video series in 2022. No matter how many times his portrayal of Reacher is compared to Cruise’s, Ritchson said he “never got tired of
Being compared to the most legendary actor of all time? The newest movie star? “I would never get tired of being compared to his stature,” Ritchson told MovieZine.
“Look, it’s done its thing, there’s a lot of attention paid to this task that I think wouldn’t be there otherwise,” Ritchson added. “There’s wonderful intellectual property, the books are wonderful, a lot of other people have read them and I enjoy the exhibition because of them, but I think a lot of other people enjoy the exhibition because it made them aware. “
Of course, the biggest thing between Cruise and Ritchson is in their height (Cruise is 5ft 7 and Ritchson is 6ft 3), which makes the latter closer to Reacher’s 6ft 5 frame in Lee Child’s eBook series.
Ritchson, however, will stand out in Reacher Season 3 when he takes on one of the story’s villains, Paulie (Oliver “the Dutch giant” Richters), who is 7-foot-2.
Both of Cruise’s Jack Reacher movies are streaming on Netflix, while the first two seasons of Ritchson’s Reacher are streaming on Prime Video.
