Washington “was on its way to Fort Le Boeuf, which would be close to Erie,” Jack Cohen, Butler County Tourism president and a board member of 1753 George Washington Trail, told Fox News Digital in a phone interview this week.

There he would meet with French troops “to see if he can avoid the French and Indian war,” Cohen said.

Washington had been tasked with delivering a letter from Virginia Governor Robert Dinwiddie that did not ask the French to leave the region.

However, even before that, on December 27, 1753, Washington and his guide, a surveyor named Christopher Gist, were following the Venango Indian Trail back to Virginia when they stopped for the night at Connoquenessing Creek in Pennsylvania, he recounted. Cohen.

There, the two befriended an “Indian guide” who told them he would help them cross the desert, he said.

It turns out that the “Indian guide” allied himself with the French troops and is not satisfied with seeing Washington.
