The first VR Games Showcase spawned a flood of new VR titles like Arizona Sunshine Remake and Trombone Champ: Unflattened, but two new (and very similar) titles caught my eye: Action Hero and Vendetta Forever. Both appear to be slow-motion action games like the amazing Superhot VR that will allow you to realize your John Wick gunfight fantasies without risking serious physical injury or paying your fitness insurance premiums.
In Fast Travel Games’ Action Hero, you’re an action movie hero starring in a series of five fiction films, adding an Indiana Jones-style Nazi murder adventure, a high-tech heist thriller, and a Jurassic park of scams. Each movie has 4 other cinematic sequences and you provide all the gripping action of throwing guns, dodging stones, and punching raptors (yes, you can punch velociraptors in the face). The action unfolds slowly so you can add some flair to the scene, such as firing two high-caliber pistols at once, acting in smooth hand-to-hand combat, and undeterred by loud explosions.
Vendetta Forever from Meta Space Interactive also puts you in the middle of slow-moving action sequences as opposed to waves of nameless enemies. It claims to have an “all-new low-speed movement mechanic” so you can sneak up on bad guys or dodge incoming enemies. You shoot like an Olympic gymnast. The flavor is a little closer to Superhot’s blank canvas scenes but with a little more detail.
Vendetta Forever is presented as a tribute to the stylized “cult action” films, full of exciting music and movements as a virtual remake of the PC action sandbox Maximum Action. A demo of the game is now available on the Meta Game Store for Quest 2 and Quest 3.
Action Hero will be available later this year on Meta Quest 2, Meta Quest 3, and Meta Quest Pro. Vendetta Forever will be available in October on PS VR2, as well as on Meta Quest 2, Meta Quest 3, and Meta Quest Pro. .
