Two Clint Eastwood epic WWII movies are on BBC iPlayer for a while only

Clint Eastwood is arguably best known for his iconic westerns, but the Hollywood star who turns 95 this year has also starred in some epic World War II films.

Before directing Second World War companion films Flags of Our Fathers and Letters from Iwo Jima in his later life, he played lead roles in Where Eagles Dare and Kelly’s Heroes.

Both classics from the beginnings of the New Hollywood will be on BBC iPlayer for the next 29 days.

The first is Kelly’s Heroes from the 1970s, a comedy starring Eastwood alongside Telly Savalas, Don Rickles and Donald Sutherland. The plot follows an organization of American infantrymen who realize that the Nazis got past hidden enemy lines thanks to a drunk German. they pass on a project to borrow it themselves. During the filming of the film, Eastwood was laughing on the floor after sharing bad news with Sutherland.

Then there’s Where Eagles Dare from 1968. Another World War II Eastwood vintage, this spy adventure stars Richard Burton and Mary Ure. The plot follows a team of special operations directors on a project to rescue a captured American general from a Nazi stronghold. Until they realize that their quest is rarely what it seems.

Both will be on BBC iPlayer for the next 29 days.
