UK says ‘Russian actors’ probably tried to disrupt 2019 elections

Raab said of the leak: “Confidential government documents related to the flexible industry agreement between the UK and the UNITED States were illegally acquired before the 2019 general election and disseminated online on the Social Media Platform Reddit.

“When they have not gained ground, additional attempts have been made to advertise illegally acquired online in the run-up to the general election.

“While there is no evidence of a broad-spectrum Russian crusade that opposes the general election, any attempt to interfere in our democratic processes is absolutely unacceptable.”

Raab added that an ongoing criminal investigation, which prevented him from giving additional details.

But he promised that Britain would “call and react to malicious activities” and supported the Berlin movements that opposed a suspected Russian hack by the German parliament in 2015.

The Kremlin denied the allegations on Thursday.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov cited TASS news firm as “unfounded accusations.”

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova mocked the British claim and said it was “so confusing and contradictory that it is practically to understand.”

“On the one hand, there is no evidence. On the other hand, they communicate about retaliatory measures. These things are mutually exclusive,” he says.
