After surprising the world with the concept of filming a feature film in space, Tom Cruise is perhaps a little closer to locating a spouse who signs up for him, as well as director Doug Liman in the untitled film. We’ve shown that Universal Pictures is in initial conversations about the assignment that would be the first film to be shot in space.
If an agreement is reached, Cruise would play with Liman as the leader. Universal did not comment.
There are still many points to be defined, adding whether it is even imaginable to assure Cruise and the film crew, since never before has a film been filmed in the area.
Deadline first announced the news that Cruise had discussed the concept with Elon Musk’s Space X and NASA to shoot a film in the area in May. The assignment was even more an option when Liman arrived. The main points of the story are unknown and so far no script has been written, however, resources say that Cruise and Liman had been discussing a concept of history for some time after being presented in combination on Edge of Tomorrow and American Made.
Even if an agreement were reached, there is no timetable for the production of this film, because Cruise has yet to complete the production of two other films, Mission: Impossible. Production of these films was halted in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but production is about to restart with plans to film the two sequels one after the other.
