Video: Netflix unveils trailer for ‘Rez Ball’ produced by Lakers’ LeBron James

Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James and his production company, SpringHill Entertainment, have teamed up with Netflix for the new Rez Ball movie that will be released on September 27.

Netflix released the official trailer for it on Tuesday.

Set in Chuska, New Mexico, the film follows the top basketball team at the Chuska Warriors school, of Native American heritage, as they regroup after the death of the team’s star player.

The film is from Michael Powell’s 2019 non-fiction e-book, Canyon Dreams. The name of the film has a double meaning. The first is that it is derived from basketball played on Native American reservations.

According to NPR’s Michael Schaub, the e-book also describes rez ball as an exclusive version of the basketball game that features “a game of running, passing, passing, cutting and shooting in fast, squeaky silver sneakers, spinning layups and quick shots and runs. ” , an endless race. . . The game is fast and relentless like a stream fed by a monsoon.

Rez Ball co-written through Sydney Freeland and Sterlin Harjo. Harjo co-created and served as showrunner of the Hulu FX series Reservation Dogs.

Freeland directed two episodes of the series. It will be his feature film and his first since 2014’s Drunktown’s Fist.

Rez Ball will be the second film produced by James to be released on Netflix. His company previously produced Hustle, starring Adam Sandler, which launched on the streamer in 2022.

It will debut at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival, from September 5 to 15, in the Special Presentations section.
