Video shows a lot of dolphins trampling near Dana Point

DANA POINT (CBS SF) – The captain of an excursion ship posted a video Monday of a rare site: many dolphins rush off the coast of Dana Point.

Dave Anderson, owner of Captain Dave’s Whale and Dolphin Watching Safari, posted the video featuring about three hundred dolphins traveling in combination at top speed jumping out of the water.

In the text accompanying the video, Anderson described a stampede of dolphins as dolphins “coming out of the water at full speed.” Poisoning is the fastest way for dolphins because there is less resistance in the air than in water. »

“It’s unclear what the reasons for the unusual dolphin fever are,” Anderson wrote. “It’s an idea that dolphins can escape from a predator like the orcas, run to catch a food source, or run into a dolphin organization.”

Anderson added that anything can cause a dolphin fever and that his boat has to do with the behavior of the dolphins. “They’re afraid of the boat,” Anderson wrote.

The domain around Dana Point in Southern California houses dolphin density consistent with the square mile on earth. There are about 450,000 dolphins, the same type of stomping in the video, living off the coast.

“Dana Point is one of the best places in the world to see large mega-pods that can number in herds of up to 10,000,” Anderson wrote.
