On Wednesday, the Walt Disney World Union of Park Artists reached an agreement with the company to allow the creation of a COVID-19 check in the State of Florida for staff and the public.
“We are convinced that testing is a vital detail to secure an office for fair players, and today I am pleased to see that Disney World has accepted,” kate Shindle, chair of the Actors’ Equity Association, said in a statement.
Earlier, Disney announced a retirement in late June for actors and artists to return from rehearsal. The union issued a public call for testing for the artists, which led Disney to cancel the withdrawal of union members.
The union represents approximately 750 Disney World employees. It is known how many artists would return to the park after the agreement.
Disney officials said there would be a compromised check tracking for their workers and their families, with reservations for COVID-19 checks starting Thursday.
In a statement, Disney added that the advent of driving evidence is not a reaction to the union’s demands, the Associated Press reported.
“The Florida Division of Emergency Management will operate on site, which will be available to distribution members and their families, as well as Florida residents,” he said. “Our movements help all stakeholders and our network as a whole.”
Last March, Disney World in Orlando, Florida, closed its doors due to COVID-19 pandemic issues. The park reopened in mid-July with updated measures to allow visitors to enter the park while following mask orders and social distance measurements.
