Warner Bros. ne will no longer release Genndy Tartakovsky’s hand-drawn 2D film Fixed, according to a report in Puck’s newsletter that was later shown through other media outlets. The adult comedy tells the story of a dog’s last wild day before being neutered.
According to Matthew Belloni of Puck:
The project, a co-production by Warner’s New Line and Sony Pictures, concluded last year, with a cast that included Adam Devine and Kathryn Hahn. But Warner did not broadcast it. Instead, it returned the film to Sony, which is now looking to sell it to a broadcaster or other distributor. Without a buyer, Fix will most likely suffer the same fate as Batgirl or Coyote vs. Acme.
As Belloni indicated, the film finished last year (October 2023 is the date we’ve heard about) and has been waiting for a release date ever since. Although it was produced through Sony Pictures Animation, it was made in partnership and financed through Warner Bros. (a set of illegal programs) to save money.
Although distribution rights have since reverted to Sony Pictures Animation, the company appears interested in releasing the film and is currently exploring other distribution options.
The disappearance of Fix at Warner Bros. es, in fact, the third fully finished animated feature film that the studio decided not to release, after Scoob!Holiday Haunt and Warner Animation Group’s hybrid production, Coyote vs. It should be noted that there is no ancient precedent for a Hollywood studio to constantly produce animated films and not release them.
But the truth is that if WBD can’t make money from Fix, it’s unlikely they can make money from other animated videos either. Many points played in favor of Tartakovsky’s new project, starting with the fact that it was economical and low-cost. risk production. We’ve heard the budget is around $30 million, a drop in the ocean by American animation standards and much less difficult to salvage than a bigger-budget film. Secondly, it comes from a highly profitable director whose 3 entries in the Hotel Transylvania series generated over $1. 36 billion at the box office. And finally, Warner Bros. , of all companies, knew the gift they were getting with this film; It’s not like Tartakovsky hasn’t spent decades creating some of WB’s most iconic and original shows, adding Dexter’s Lab, Star Wars: Clone Wars and Samurai Jack, not to mention Primal lately in production.
Warner Bros. lately has another animated feature scheduled for release this year: The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim, opening December 13 at New Line Cinema. It remains to be seen if it will be published.
