What To Watch This Weekend: New Shows And Movies To Stream On Netflix, Hulu, Prime Video, Apple TV And More

I complain about how time temporarily flies, but I’ll be honest: the last week has passed pretty slowly for some reason. Last Friday actually feels a bit distant, relatively speaking, which is strange. The weather is strange. Time is a flat circle.

Anyway, as always, I spent the week researching the most productive new streaming content (not to mention theatrical releases) and compiling it into this friendly community weekend streaming guide. All the best TV shows and movies, and some for you. It must be avoided. Once again, one man’s junk TV is another man’s treasure.

Don’t also check out my lists of the worst TVs and the most productive TVs of 2024, because there’s a lot you would have possibly missed out on in 2024.

If you have any tips or if I missed something, message me on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook. You can check out last weekend’s streaming consultant here.

We’ll start with new and old screens and movies, of which there are a few this weekend, we’ll start with my expected maximum TV screen for 2025.

Apple TV’s most productive TV show returns this weekend with a great season 2 premiere (my recap/review) and I couldn’t be happier. The story of Mark S, Helly R and the rest of the “separated” Lumon workers is one of the most productive things on television. I actually watched all ten episodes of season 2 (explainer why I’m onto other things!) and I have a spoiler-free review that you can check out here. If you haven’t seen this screen yet, sign up for Apple TV and give it a try. You may not regret it!

This is my Friday evening film this weekend. I want anything gentle after last evening’s being worried watch (see below). This action-thriller-comedy “a married couple is forced to go back to their lives as spies” starring Cameron Diaz and Jamie Foxx hasn’t gotten wonderful reviews, yet you know what? Looks like fun. This looks like the type of film I can just turn my brain off and watch, much like the newest Bad Boyz film. I like stupid action films from time to time. I will monitor it and report back.

Honestly, I know almost nothing about XO, Kitty and I don’t think it’s my cup of tea, however, if you’re a fan of the first season, season 2 is now on Netflix. Thank!

I’m a Harley Quinn fan and the animated series is one of the most entertaining (adult) animated superhero shows. If you’re a fan, the new season is out this weekend on HBO and Max.

Also on HBO and Max, Sebastian Stan’s new (sort of) film A24 about an aspiring actor who undergoes a radical medical procedure to reshape his appearance. For reasons I don’t yet understand, it’s counterproductive. I guess the guy isn’t happy with Looking Like Sebastian Stan now or something. Things go from bad to worse as you try to find what you miss. And that’s weird, because it’s very similar to the next movie on this list. . . .

Yes, I included it last weekend too, but it’s still available with a free Mubi trial and I watched it this Thursday night for the first time. I. . . didn’t like it. The premise was appealing at first and the beginning was strong, but I didn’t like the direction it was taking and by the end it became more and more ridiculous. Excellent performances from Demi Moore, Margaret Qualley and Dennis Quaid, on the other hand. But I think I’m done with the whole “body horror” thing for a while. You can read my review of The Substance here.

I just noticed this movie was out in my local theater. Starring Colman Domingo, it’s about a man who finds meaning in prison through its theater program. It’s amazing to see Domingo in so many great-looking projects after he languished for so many years on Fear The Walking Dead. This looks amazing!

I actually disliked Alien Romulus quite intensely, so while this is now streaming on Disney+ I’m using it more as an excuse to post the Pitch Meeting video from YouTuber Ryan George, which is hilarious as always. But seriously, this was not a good movie.

Some exhibits are finishing or have just recently ended and have been in this consultant for several weeks. Silo, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, and Outlander (the season finale comes out today), to name a few. I plan to gorge myself on Silo and Outlander, so far I’ve only watched a few episodes of the existing season. I just have to finish the last episode of Skeleton Crew and I’ll be stuck there. I think it’s a really fun Star Wars series, even if it is. aimed at a younger audience. The agency is also coming to an end and I’ve yet to see that (and The Day of the Jackal).

The Pitt is a new Max Original that takes the format of two popular classic series, ER and 24, and mixes them up. Each episode lasts an additional hour in a busy emergency room, exploring the lives and struggles of staff and patients. I heard some clever things still. I haven’t started on this one yet. (Maximum)

Traitors – Season 3 continues airing weekly as well and is now the biggest unscripted show going at the moment. It’s like a challenge reality show meets murder mystery dinner. I admit, I’ve never watched it because I don’t like reality TV that much, but it does sound entertaining! (Peacock)

Lockerbie: A Search For Truth Colin Firth stars in this harrowing true story about the December 21, 1988 Pan Am Flight 103 bombing over Lockerbie, Scotland. I’ll be honest, this one sounds quite depressing and I haven’t been in the mood for super depressing lately, so I’m holding off for now. (Peacock)

Dexter: Original Sin is my favourite to blame excitement each and each week. It definitely feels like I’m rewatching the original series for the first time, and I even began watching the first season of Dexter when I ran out of episodes of Original Sin. This is a well-made prequel (nibbles aside). Here is my opinion. (Primordial)

By the way, I just found out that Peacock canceled the Teacup series. It’s a shame. I enjoyed (although I didn’t love) the first season. There was more history there, but we’ll never know where it goes!
