Flight Risk—director Mel Gibson’s air thriller starring Mark Wahlberg—is new in theaters. How soon will it be before you can stream it at home?
Rated R, Flight Risk opens in theaters nationwide on Friday. The official synopsis for the film reads, “In this high-stakes suspense thriller, Academy Award nominee Mark Wahlberg plays a pilot transporting an Air Marshal (Michelle Dockery) accompanying a fugitive (Topher Grace) to trial. As they cross the Alaskan wilderness, tensions soar and trust is tested, as not everyone on board is who they seem.”
Flight Risk is Gibson’s first film as a director since Hacksaw Ridge, which was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture in 2016.

As an example, Lionsgate’s releases of The Crow and Borderlands both debuted on PVOD just under three weeks after they opened in theaters. Most recently, though, the studio’s holiday hit The Best Christmas Pageant Ever took about a month before it arrived on PVOD.
If Flight Risk follows the same three-week to one-month pattern, audiences can expect the film to hit PVOD any time between February 18 and February 25, as new streaming releases tend to arrive on Tuesdays.
Lionsgate has a deal with app Starz related to the studio’s video-on-demand releases.
Generally, it takes five to six months for a Lionsgate film to arrive on SVOD after it opens in theaters. To cite a recent example, Lionsgate’s The Crow will debut on SVOD on STARZ on Feb. 19, just shy of six months after its Aug. 23, 2024, release date.
The wait for The Best Christmas Pageant Ever to arrive on STARZ, however, is a bit shorter. The film is scheduled to arrive on SVOD on March 31, close to five months after its Nov. 10, 2024, release date in theaters.
As such, audiences can expect Flight Risk to debut on SVOD on Starz between June 27 and July 25.
