This is the remake of “The Secret Garden”. A new version, starring Colin Firth and Julie Walters, will be released Friday on VOD platforms, but that may make some audiences think about the 1993 film (which lately is being broadcast on HBO Max). Find out where the cast of “Secret Garden” is now through manufacturer Francis Ford Coppola:
Kate Maberly played Mary Lennox in the 1993 film at the age of 11 and remained an actress. The 38-year-old continued with many BBC-era dramas such as Anglo-Saxon-Attitudes and Victoria and Albert, and gave the impression as Wendy Darling in Finding Neverland. She also began directing and producing, her debut being the short “Charlie’s Supersonic Glider”.
Heydon Prowse portrayed Mary’s poor health cousin, Colin Craven. Now he’s doing political comedy. He is known for the British satirical exhibition “The Revolution Will Be Televised”, which included stories such as “Real Housewives of ISIS”. He also drew attention to political jokes, such as giving a politician a math manual and convincing the Prime Minister’s workplace that President Trump was trying to send him flowers for Valentine’s Day.
Laura Crossley gave the impression in “The Secret Garden” as Martha Sowerby, Medlock’s maid. Now 40, the actress continued to paint on British television series such as “Hollyoaks” and “Emmerdale” in the 1990s and 2000s. His last screen role was in “Coronation Street” in 2011.
Andrew Knott played Martha’s younger brother Dickon Sowerby in “The Secret Garden”, which was her first primary role. He went on to star in “The Black Beauty” and “Coronation Street” before playing a role in “The Boys of History”, where he ended up making his Broadway debut. The 40-year-old made the impression in dozens of films and TV shows, adding Peacock’s new adaptation of “Brave New World.”
John Lynch played Lord Archibald Craven in the 1993 film, and he works hard. He played Pope Sixtus IV last year in “Medici,” John Bridgens in “The Terror” and Jim Burns in “The Fall.”
Maggie Smith played Mrs. Medlock, Lord Craven’s maid, in The Secret Garden. She worked for decades before the film and is still working on new projects. At 85, she is the acknowledged maximum Teacher McGonagall from the films “Harry Potter” and “Dowed Countess” in “Downton Abbey”.
Irene Jacob gave the impression that Mrs. Lennox / Lilias Craven in 1993 and has not declined since. More recently, American audiences may recognize her on Netflix’s “The OA,” “The Showtime” or Showtime’s “Patrick Melrose.”
Walter Sparrow memorably played Ben Weatherstaff, the gardener, in the film. He continued to appear in the films “Now and Then”, “Ever After: A Cinderella Story” and “Treasure Island”. He died in 2000 at the age of 73.
“The Secret Garden” is founded in The Secret Garden’s e-book through Frances Hodgson Burnett with the same title, and the 1993 film also a remake. The first in 1919 and followed by remakes in 1949, 1975 and 1987.
