Inside Out 2, Moana 2, Deadpool & Wolverine and Wicked were among the biggest winners at the 2024 box office, but what other films made big money this year?
As the list shows, they are the sequels that attracted the highest audience in 2024. Of the 10 highest-grossing films indexed through Box Office Mojo, nine were sequels and one prequel.
The countdown to the films ends the last week of the Calfinishar year, December 27-29. In addition, streaming data accompanies ads.
Here’s a breakdown of the top 10 highest-grossing films in descending at the worldwide box office in 2024.
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, director Tim Burton’s long-awaited sequel to the classic 1988 supernatural comedy Beetlejuice, starring Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder and Catherine O’Hara, premiered in local theaters through Warner Bros. on September 6.
Also starring Jenna Ortega, Monica Bellucci, Justin Theroux, Willem Dafoe and Danny DeVito, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice grossed $294. 1 million domestically and $157 million worldwide for an international box office of $451 million.

The third and presumably final film in Sony Pictures Entertainment’s Venom trilogy starring Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock/Venom was released in theaters domestically on Oct. 25.
Also starring Juno Temple, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Rhys Ifans and Stephen Graham, Venom: The Last Dance earned $139.7 million at the domestic box office and $336.6 million internationally.
National team ranking: No. 16.

Kung Fu Panda 4—starring the voices of Jack Black and Awkwafina—was released in North American theaters by Universal Pictures on March 8.
Also featuring the voices of Bryan Cranston and Viola Davis, Kung Fu Panda Four grossed around $193. 6 million domestically and $35 million internationally.
National draw ranking: N°10.

The fifth bankruptcy of the Warner Bros. MonsterVerse shared cinematic universe, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, opened in theaters nationwide on March 29.
Starring Rebecca Hall, Dan Stevens and Brian Tyree Henry, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire grossed $196. 3 million domestically and $375. 4 million internationally.
National team ranking: No. 9.

Wicked, a prequel to The Wizard of Oz, is the only one that isn’t a sequel on the list of the 10 highest-grossing films of 2024. Wicked opened in domestic theaters on November 22.
Directed by Jon M. Chu and starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, Universal Pictures’ Wicked has grossed $424. 2 million domestically and $210. 1 million worldwide as of Dec. 29.
National boxing ranking: N°3.

Before he channeled Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown, Timothée Chalamet took a trip back to Arrakis on March 1 for the Warner Bros. sequel to director Denis Villeneuve’s 2021 hit, Dune.
Also starring Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem and Josh Brolin, Dune: Part Two grossed $282. 1 million domestically and $432. 3 million internationally.
Domestic box office ranking: No. 7.
Transmission: Dune: Part Two airs on Max.
Auli’i Cravalho and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson return as the voices of Moana and Maui in the sequel to Disney’s 2016 animated blockbuster, Moana.
Released in theaters on Nov. 27, Moana 2 has grossed $394.6 domestically and $487.9 million internationally to date.
Domestic box office ranking: No. 3.
Streaming: Moana 2 is only playing in theaters.
The sixth film in the Despicable Me franchise, which includes two Minions films, opened in theaters domestically on July 3.
Starring the voices of Steve Carell, Kristin Wiig, Will Ferrell and Pierre Coffin (as Minions), Despicable Me Four grossed $361 million domestically and $608. 1 million internationally.
National team ranking: No. 5.
Streaming: Despicable Me is streaming on Peacock.
The third film in Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool film series marks the character’s arrival in Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe, the banner of the company’s 20th Century Studios.
Released in domestic theaters on July 26, Deadpool, former 20th Century Fox anti-hero, joins former Fox superhero X-Men, Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) and many characters from Fox’s Marvel videos in supporting roles and cameos.
Directed by Shawn Levy, Deadpool & Wolverine grossed $636.7 million domestically and $701.3 million internationally.
Domestic box office ranking: No. 2.
Streaming: Deadpool & Wolverine airs on Disney+.
The core emotions from Inside Out—led by Joy (voice of Amy Poehler)—are joined by new emotions including Anxiety (Maya Hawke) and Envy (Ayo Edibiri) for the sequel to the 2015 Best Animated Feature Oscar winner.
Disney’s Inside Out 2, which was released in North American theaters on June 14, earned $652.9 million domestically and $1.045 billion internationally.
