Wings Over North Georgia returns to air show driving

ROME, Georgia – There’s never been a drive-in like this.

Experience the F-16 Falcons, U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, Paratroopers and aerial performances at the Wings Over North Georgia Air Show on October 24 and 25. This year it’s a drive-in.

“Many peak occasions and air displays were forced to cancel the pandemic,” said John Cowman, the organizer of the exhibition. “My team and I have worked diligently with government and local and regional government to locate artistic and safe tactics to organize this year’s air show and avoid cancellations. We’ve moved to a driving airshow style that fully meets the wide diversity of protection considerations while allowing us to deliver exciting entertainment in a family-friendly location for citizens in the three states. We believe this is the “blow on the arm” that our network wants right now, especially autumn, one of the most charming moments of the year in our region. »

To provide an environment for airshow participants, the 2020 occasion will use a drive-in format for air display, providing spectators with a combination of social distance while watching some of the most productive artists in the military and civil aviation.

Russell Regional Airport will be remodeled into a large self-service car park for the event. Tickets must be purchased in advance. None of them will be sold at the venue of the show. General parking tickets for the aerodrome charge $130 according to the vehicle, with a limited number of parking tickets at the front row airfield for $300 according to the car. There will be no restriction on the number of other people admitted according to the car, provided that there are as many seat belts installed as passengers.

Each car will be assigned an area of 10 feet x 20 feet for the vehicle with an adjacent personal area of 10 feet x 20 feet to be behind. Front row single seats will have an additional hundred square feet area. Guests can bring their own comfortable chairs, tables, drinks and food. Drinks and food will also be on sale on site. Participants must remain in their assigned parking area unless they use the bathroom or purchase food or beverages.

The Thunderbirds will headline and play for the last time on Saturday and Sunday with their six red, white and blue Falcons. USAF Thunderbirds are known around the world for their precision education flight demonstration, pushing their F-16 “Fighting Falcons” to the limit. Known as “American blue ambassadors,” the Thunderbirds have toured the world show in front of millions of viewers. Demonstration groups from the Golden Knights of the United States Army and the U.S. Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt II will complete the line of army artists.

Opening ceremonies will begin every day with the U.S. Army Golden Knights Paratrooper Team. The elite paratrooper organization will kick off aerial performances of the national anthem and return later for a full demonstration showing the skills and experience of the world’s most productive army paratroopers.
