Bron Breakker stole the show at WWE Survivor Series 2024—and walked out of Vancouver still the Intercontinental Champion, too.
In a triple risk between Breakker, Ludwig Kaiser and Sheamus, Breakker shattered the hearts of enthusiasts when he kept his championship while pinning Sheamus, preventing “the Celtic warrior” from winning the one name that has eluded him to his entire career for Sheamus. , however, was some other failed attempt to win the coveted intercontinental belt.
For Breakker, it’s another win in what promises to be a long list of primary victories when all is said and done.
WWE, after all, advances at a full speed with a great impulse for Breakker, the double intercontinental champion and one of the most productive young customers of the total professional struggle. ESPN recently classified Breakker as a global fighter No. 11 less than 30, a very low classification for the star generation star, but it is transparent that WWE considers it as a long career.
Earlier this year, Breakker—just months after being called up from NXT to the main roster—was reportedly such a hit on the main roster that WWE adjusted its plan for the former NXT Champion. That appeared to be just a brief hiccup for Breakker, however, and once again, WWE is moving ahead with major plans for the marquee star.
WWE would have to push Breakker not only as a heel monster or beloved baby face, but rather as a “twener”, which is necessarily the way WWE uses the multidimensional star, but corporate judges are intelligent in that moment. This role can be difficult to play if it is the bad star that interprets it, but Breakker is the best candidate to take this place. He was quite evident in the Survivor series, where Breakker enthusiasts threw him slightly and reacted well in his match, which helped save the Survivor series after the first two games deflated the crowd.
Given his intensity and focus, Breakker comes across more as a heel, but his crowd chants, incredible athleticism and impressive resume of matches in his brief career have turned him into a pseudo fan favorite already. While WWE could have rushed Breakker’s push and catapulted right to the top of the card, that isn’t necessary right now.
The WWE list is surely loaded, so it is not mandatory to raise it too temporarily in a raw program that also presents CM Punk, Seth Rollins, Gunther and Drew McIntyre. The most productive strategy with Breakker is to continue reserving it strongly and freeing it in rivalries than when it is in a position, and only when the crowd requests.
Based on how enthusiasts treated him in the WWE Survivor series, it would possibly be faster than expected, and Breakker may also sidestep stars like Punk or Gunther in the coming months. More likely, however, Breakker will be a very secretive intercontinental champion who bears this prestigious name in the same way as Gunther.
That’s a good role for him right now—and until the time comes for him to swim in the deep end.
