Yankees-Braves postponed by weather, DH ready on Wednesday

ATLANTA (AP) – The New York Yankees have to go down some other day, this time because of the weather.

Rain in Atlanta forced the Braves’ game off the line against the Yankees, delaying the debut of Ian Anderson and the return of Aaron Judge and Ronald Acua Jr. from the disabled list.

The Yankees were eager to return to the box after the postponement of their three-game series against the New York Mets due to coronavirus problems.

Now, the Yankees will have to wait for a double game Wednesday at Truist Park, which would mean a six-day break from their last game with the Tampa Bay Rays.

Compare that to what’s coming: 3 double titles over a five-day period.

“It’s 2020, honey,” said New York manager Aaron Boone. “We’ll have to locate ourselves. It’s a challenge. Obviously, those seven-inning games (double title) make it a little more feasible, where it’s not so intimidating, but there’s no doubt we’re heading for a tough time here. . “

Anderson, the third overall pick in 2016 and the Braves’ most productive prospect, is scheduled to face New York Ace Gerrit Cole (4-0) on Tuesday. Cole has a 20-game winning streak in the normal season, tied for the third-longest streak in baseball history.

But severe storms hit Atlanta the day and the prognosis didn’t get much better as game time approached. Just before the first scheduled release, the game was canceled.

Two seven-inning games will be played on Wednesday. Anderson is expected to face Cole in the first game, while Mahahiro Tanaka (0-1) will face Braves’ ace Max Fried (4-0) in the final cup.

The Braves called Anderson, 22, hoping to reinforce a rotation that struggled to achieve consistency beyond Fried.

“He’s a kid who trusts his abilities,” manager Brian Snitker said. “He presented himself very well at the site of choice. He’s excited. I hope this is the beginning of a long career in the majors for this young man.

Anderson seasoned 2019 at Double-A Mississippi, where he was 7-5 with 2.68 MPM in 21 starts. He had 147 strikeouts in 111 innings.

Moving to Triple-A Gwinnett at the end of last season, Anderson struggled a little in the openings. He went 1-2 with 6.57 MPM, making home races in 24 2/3 innings.

Still, his arrival in Atlanta is eagerly awaited.

“I’m excited to see what he’s got, ” said Fried. “I know you’ll bring it.”

COACH ROOM

Both have strengthened their rosters by activating key players.

The sentence was recovered from a right-handed twin in poor health who sent him to the disabled list. He arrived at Array290 with nine home races and 20 RBIs in 17 games.

Acua will return to the Braves after spending two weeks in IL with a bad doll.

“I feel good,” said Acua, who hits Array258 with four home races and nine RBIs. “I am satisfied to come back and do what I love. I’m in a position to give the team a hundred percent.”

Atlanta also recovered Nick Markakis, who spent time on the disabled list after being exposed to COVID-19.

Happy Unhappy

J.. A. Happ didn’t come right away and said, however, the Yankees left-hander seemed to mean that the team would restrict their exits to their $17 acquisition option by 2021.

Happ would have needed to make 26 starts or pitch 165 innings to cause his clause in a popular 162-game season. In proportion to the short season of 60 games, Happ is expected to succeed in 10 starts or 61 0.33 innings.

Happ has made 3 starts this season, 1-1 with 6.39 MPM in 12 2/3 innings. There are no plans to launch it until Saturday, thirteen days since its last appearance on August 16.

When asked at a conference call Tuesday if he thought the Yankees were going to manipulate their numbers, Happ told reporters, “I’ll let you answer that. I think it’s pretty clear.”
