YouTube is its network contributions feature, which has allowed users to help creators translate video titles, descriptions, coded subtitles and subtitles.
In an ad on Google’s aid forums, a corporate spokesman said the function had failed to generate enough traction and was used for destructive purposes. The feature is expected to be suspended on all channels on September 28, 2020.

“Creators and audiences have reported issues with the capacity of network contributions, adding spam, abuse, and poor quality presentations,” the message reads. “As a result, the feature is rarely used with less than 0.001% of channels that have subtitles on the network (transmitted in less than 0.2% of the viewing time) in the last month.”
What happens is that the subtitles on the network that have already been published will continue to appear even after deletion. Better yet, creators will have the opportunity to approve contributions already submitted until September 28.
“If you have lately recorded contributions as drafts, they will be available for the next 60 days (until September 28, 2020) and you have until then to publish them before they are deleted,” the spokesman said.
Instead, creators will now have to rely on Google’s built-in auto captions, subtitles and manual subtitles. While the company says those computers are sufficient, it also provides creators who have used network contributions for more than two months six-month subscriptions to Amara’s subtitle service.
“We have also received special rates and from other third-party vendors, which can satisfy the desires for subtitles, translation and subtitles,” the company added.
