Are you ready for the verbal exchange to begin about the Snyder Cut of the Snyder Cut of the Snyder Cut of Rebel Moon? Because we are about to return to those waters! Earlier this year, Zack Snyder released two parts of an epic sci-fi saga called Rebel Moon. The films were inspired by Kurosawa, as well as Star Wars (which also borrowed heavily from Kurosawa), as they tell the story of the agricultural planet of Veldt that hires mercenaries to defend itself from the dominant forces of the Empire. Even before Rebel Moon hit the Netflix platform, Snyder made it clear that he had made the administrators of any of the Rebel Moon movies, which will now be available to those with a Netflix subscription starting August 2, cut the director’s cuts. . for a smart reason.
As part of his deal with Netflix, Zack Snyder was able to offer two editions of the Rebel Moon story, one that was PG-13 and arguably more marketable. And the other was the entirety of Snyder’s vision of the epic story. The director’s cuts would be sexier, more violent, but would also expand on many of the characters from the “theatrical” cut, which didn’t get much of a theatrical release, but I digress. However, Snyder teased his appearance on CinemaBlend’s official ReelBlend podcast. an NC-17 edition of Rebel Moon that had to be scaled down even further. Get the Snyder Cut out of the Snyder Cut!
Snyder talks about a scene involving the sinister Admiral Noble (Ed Skrein) that occurs at the beginning of the director’s cut of Rebel Moon: Part One. It’s a cruel scene in which Noble forces Aris (Sky Yang) to perform an act despicable to become. his alliance with Mother World. And while talking about the editing of this scene, Snyder revealed:
There were some cuts I had to make to the footage (by one Ed Skrein) to bring it up to the NC-17 R score. Because he had been NC-17 for quite a while, and then he needed. . . A few less hits (to the head), a few less brains he dug up. (This edition is) somewhere. But no, I had a verbal exchange with Netflix about whether that was a possibility or not. And they said, “We need it to be R. ” And I said, “Okay. That’s how it is. I said I’d give you an R rating. Snyder) said, “You agreed it was rated R. ” And I said, “Yeah, yeah, yeah. A deal’s a deal. “
Why do studios and streamers insist on leaking Zack Snyder? Let the boy cook! When he delivers the director’s cut of his purest vision, it always proves to be the most productive version of the story at hand imaginable, from Snyder’s four-hour cut of his lost Justice League film to the final cut of his arguable Batguy. vs. Superguy: Dawn of Justice. I also don’t really understand the need for a streaming service to care about ratings. But Snyder said that Netflix, based on his conversations, was interested in having a more promotional edition of the Rebel Moon story, as he told ReelBlend:
There was a verbal exchange about the score and the duration, where they felt that we could do a bit more publicity editing of this film if we kept the score at PG thirteen and the duration at around two hours. It was a verbal exchange. They believe that, according to their data, it would be more visible. And then I said, “Okay. ” It was part of the negotiation. I had definitely written an R-rated movie. So that was a verbal exchange. Like, “Hey, if we say yes, is there a PG-thirteen edition of this movie?”And I said: “Absolutely”, we were in negotiations and we had this concept for those director’s productions. PG-thirteen supplement (edition). Because I surely felt that the movie that I had written and the movie that I wanted to make, of course, was this longer R-rated movie that I was watching.
If Zack Snyder has his way and continues to engage audiences with Rebel Moon, it’s imaginable that a third film in the franchise will arrive on Netflix. At the same time, he’s juggling other projects in his Army of the Dead series, while also dealing with other projects that are teased. We’ll have more with Snyder once the full verbal exchange comes to ReelBlend.
